We’ve talked about different types of planning in the PMBOK Guide. Based on PRINCE2®, planning should be in multiple layers: a “project plan”, which is a high-level plan prepared at the beginning of the project, followed by “stage plans”, which are detailed plans created before each stage of the project, and then “team plans”, which are very detailed (yet optional) plans created for deliverables.
